Cleaning out the closet

The towns in this area do something called "big trash day" where anyone who wants to get rid of their junk and large items can put it out on the curb for trash pick up. It lasts about a month and it's a great way to get rid of items you don't have use for or are broken.

Essentially it's a free yard sale. Scavengers drive around and sort through the items and take things that they could use, fix, or transform into something they need. The piles of big trash are usually quite small by the time that the garbage man comes.

We started cleaning out our closets and yard last week, and the garage yesterday, and had a decent pile of big trash items. (old wood, fences, etc.) We also had a truck load of charity items. (Balsa plane kits, clothing, shoes, pet items, stuffed animals, vases, etc.) Things that were just too good for big trash. I'm glad it lasts a month as we barely made a dent on things!

I guess it's one nice thing about getting ready to move. It gives you a chance to clean out your closets.
