Turkey Day!
In honor of the Pi0neer W0man (one of my favorite bloggers) I'm going to post a bunch of pictures of food! The prep and the results... (just not the recipes) It was just the two of us today, but it didn't stop us from preparing a feast...
While the turkey was soaking in brine, I started the pumpkin and pecan pies. Since they tend to take awhile.I make the crust too, it's easy really,
especially with the right tools! (IE: Don't use the wire pastry cutter, they just make things more difficult. I love the one in the picture, it's much better!)
I then rolled out the crust and put it in the pie plate. (My cookie stone works great as a cold rolling surface!) I usually keep the pie crust chilled while I prep the fillings.
I did the pumpkin pie first because it takes longer. It managed to get a bit brown on the edges, but I'm hoping that won't affect the taste too much.
Then I made the pecan pie... Mmm... I love the sugary base! It even smells good. Especially while baking, when it combines with the roasting pecans!
I cooked enough to feed a large family, so we'll have leftovers for a week, but it was totally worth it. Not only did the house smell amazing, the oven made it nice and toasty! (It got up to 78 degrees without the heat on.)

On the downside, there was much food, we don't have room to try the pies yet! (Even though we didn't make much of a dent in any of these dishes, we're completely full.)
I'm thinking the pies will become a late night snack at this point. :-) .............................. Happy Thanksgiving!
