Summer heat wave...

What do you do to usher in summer when it's over 100 degrees out? Ride your horse!

I gave the girls a bath today to beat the heat, and then jumped on my mare for a brief jaunt up to look at some props for an upcoming event.

Since we both managed to get wet during the bathing process, it didn't feel like 100 plus. In fact, she didn't even break a sweat on the ride. --I think not having a saddle on helped... plus there was a nice breeze that made things seem cooler than they really are. I was shocked it was so hot when got into the truck and heard the temps on the news!

The best thing about my mare is that she is pretty bombproof. (IE: she doesn't scare easily) She didn't even spook at the flags and flapping streamers that were behind the props, and stood pretty still to allow me to take a few pictures. I think this Saloon prop was my favorite, it made you want to grab a beer and kick back with your friends.

I've spent the last couple of days up at the ranch visiting my girls, as I start a new job next week! I have no idea how my time will be allocated for the next few weeks, but I have the feeling it will be harder to fit a ride in.
The plus is, I should have health insurance soon! Who knows, I may be able to do another IVF cycle before I turn 40 yet!

It's at least 5 degrees hotter here than where my horses are, and I'm pretty much dried off from the bath. So I'm off to cool down in the local watering hole... and truly savor my last day of freedom for awhile....
