Analyze that!

My blood work is slowing coming in. My Dr called me at work on Tuesday and I freaked out because I thought something was wrong. But instead it was just a courtesy call stating that some of my tests had come in. Everything was good, all of the tests to date were negative and the rest were still being worked on as they took a bit longer. How nice is that!?!

On Wednesday I decided to see if by some fluke the scales were wrong at the Dr's office, and got my 3rd and final measurements at the gym. (I overslept on Monday and wasn't able to get measured, and I forgot I had my 2nd measurements on week 10.) The scales weren't lying. I have gained 11 pounds since June! (And NO I'm not pregnant!) Talk about depressing. I'm still dragging myself to the gym, and am bringing salads to work for lunch in the hopes that something gives.

Today my Dr called again to inform me more tests were in, and that just one remained. Since this seemed very similar to the earlier call I thanked her for the update, and was getting ready to go, but she had more to say. She proceeded to tell me "I also wanted to let you know that some mutations were found, and you might want to discuss the results with your RE."

She continued telling me the mutations were from my MTHFR Gene Analysis test. I have one copy of each of the genes they were looking for. (C677T and A1298C) I am now waiting to see what that means. I did look up as much information as I could online, and essentially it's a clotting issue called h0m0cysteine. Not only is it a major factor in blood clots and coronary disease; infertility, neural tube defects, and dementia were also listed!

I have been taking a supplement of folic acid and B vitamins for over a year, and prenatal vitamins longer than that, so I was surprised at the results--since these vitamins are often what's prescribed need to lower h0m0cysteine. I did read that the Metf0rmin can cause elevated readings, and I have been taking that for a month and 1/2, so perhaps this is part of the reason I tested high despite the intake of the vitamins. Unfortunately I have to wait for my RE to get back to me. From my web research I have the feeling that I'll have to take a fasting test to see the actual levels of the h0m0cysteine before I will know anything more.
