M0ving 0n up

We had our phone consult today. I wasn't sure what to expect, and was a little worried that I would get the same diagnosis as I have from the other doctors. In which they don't know what's wrong and they suggest another round of IVF to see if it will work.

I was pleasantly surprised to learn that there might be something we can do, and we may be able to finally diagnose the 'unexplained' portion of our infertility. We spoke with the Dr. and he said that although according to general medicine my Thyroid is within the 'normal' range, it has varied in every test I took, and was always 3 or over and once as high as 5. Reproductive medicine is finding that anything over 2 can be cause for concern when it come to infertility. So I am going to start taking thyroid medicine to help see if this will help, and if it will also help me loose the substantial amount of weight I've gained.

He also said that I may have Polycystic Ovaries. (NOT to be confused with PC0S) This could also account for weight gain and the fact that I had 21 eggs in my last retrieval which was double of what should have happened. He prescribed metformin (a diabetes drug) to see if this too would help.

I will be starting both of these medications tomorrow. I will also be going through a few blood tests in a few weeks to see the results and also see if I have Natural Killer Cells, which could also account for my "implantation issues". The best news of the entire conversation is there is a possibility of us conceiving naturally if the medications work. This is VERY encouraging. There is also a chance that we won't and will need to do another round of IVF in a couple of months if we don't see the results the Dr. is hoping for. But at least we're moving forward.
