Measuring up

Ok, so I'm a relatively pretty fat person... my height helps hide the weight. (You definitely won't see me posting a picture of me in shorts or a swimsuit!) After my last post, I met with a personal trainer, and signed up for some much needed help. My first session was Wednesday at 5:30 AM! (This from the person who has a hard time getting to work by 8:00!) I am working on scheduling my sessions around 6:00 AM going forward, as I almost threw up I had to get up so early. Unfortunately, I am so drained after work that I don't think evening is an option. We'll see how it goes.

My first session was spent taking measurements, with enough time for about 15 minutes on the elliptical machine and 15 reps on some of the equipment to see what my "baseline" is. Let's just say, my baseline was hilariously sad. I did ok on the legs, but my upper body was very week. I was lucky to make 15 reps on some things. (Although my hand grip is off the chart for a woman, so I guess that's good.)

Towards the end, I had to try the bench press. Luckily my trainer took the weight off of the bar as it still seemed a bit heavy. (I later learned just the bar alone weighs 45 lbs!) I was so exhausted, I could only manage three, before it wobbled out of control. I was shocked at how out of shape my muscles are.

The sad part is, for the little I did, I am sore. I look like an old lady getting out of my car. Tomorrow I start the real work out, and from what I've been told, a lot more pain is to be expected before my body gets use to this new form of torture. Wish me luck!
