Kitten Krazies

I can't believe it's been so long since I posted last! My kitten adoption was more complicated that I even imagined. I went up on the following Saturday, to pick up my cats. The Havana Br0wn mix I liked appeared sick, when I asked, the cat lady (foster mom for a cat rescue group) said it was a common URI (Upper Respiratory Infection) and he was on meds. He was also gassy, and quite stinky. (She said he had gotten into some ice cream which made him gassy. ) The green eyes that were shown on the web page looked gold to me. (She blamed the yellow room he was in, and I wanted to believer her, but was pretty sure it would have to be a REALLY blue room to show any green.) As it was I really liked his personality and decided I would be ok without a green eyed kitty. However, I didn't want to take a stinky cat who was sick and on meds home, and asked the cat lady if it was possible for me to pick him up the following weekend if he was feeling better. (I was rather miffed that she didn't tell me he was sick before I made the drive up, so we could have postponed the visit, but oh well.)

The other cat was adorable, very sweet with a polite mew, and gorgeous fur like coat that was VERY soft and thick. She had very unique markings as well, and they believed she was an 0cicat--a ticked variety w/o spots. I asked if I could at least take her home, since she wasn't sick, and I had driven over an hour to pick them up. I was told it would be "easier" to keep them together and bring them home at the same time. So I paid the adoption fee to hold my new kitties, and went home empty handed.

Early in the week, I followed up to see how the kittens were doing and waited for a reply. That Wednesday I got an email from the "foster mom" at the cat rescue group. She said that the "sick" kitten was doing better, but she really liked the 0cicat I picked out, and wondered if I could pick out another cat! She even sent me links of kittens that didn't look or sound anything like the one I had chosen. (She did state that of course I could say "no", and she had never done this before, but the whole thing just seemed WAY out of bounds.)

I was shocked! I had purchased everything for their arrival! (Cat tree, toys, treats, collars, litter & box, special food, food bowls, etc.) My home was completely ready for my new kitties. I didn't want to just pick out another cat, especially since I was to pick them up that Friday and really liked the cats I had chosen. I was really looking forward to having them as members of my family. There was no way that I was just going to get the one kitten and the first replacement cat I could find. I liked both of the cats that I selected, and had done tons of research up to that point on the type of cats the rescue thought they were to see if their temperament was what I was looking for. I would not just get the one cat (AKA little stinky) since I had been repeatedly told that he needed a companion and he would not do well alone. I'm rather pissed I was even put in this position. It's like the all the horror stories about adopting a kid and then just days before the adoption is complete, being told the parent wants to keep him/her after all.

It took me about a day before I could even calm down and write the lady back. I ended up emailing her stating I was pretty shocked to even receive her email and I wasn't about to randomly pick another kitten, and I wanted both of the cats I had chosen or none at all.

Long story short, I am now writing this with the original two cats in my house.

To be continued...
