Neighborhood Project

Our neighbors bailed out of a recent neighborhood progressive dinner. They were in charge of desserts. So we ended up taking their place. It was a good excuse for us to make some of our favorite desserts, without having to eat the entire pie/container of ice cream over the next week. I figured it would be 20 or so people, and told the organizer I would make some mini-cheese cakes, and a few homemade pies and Tim would make homemade ice cream. (Chocolate and Vanilla) Imagine my surprise when the headcount ballooned to 50!

We still ended up making everything, I just got out my big glass lasagna pans, and made a huge Apple Betty (10x15" pan) and Blueberry Cobbler (9x13" pan). I made two peach pies--with my grandma's homemade crust on the bottom layer and a delicious butter/crumb topping, and 48 mini-cheese cakes with fresh blueberries and cut strawberries on top. And then because we found out there would be a sizeable amount of kids there, we made some chocolate covered Rice Krispie Treats, set up a Smore's station using our smoky Joe Webber grill base (Tim retrofitted it with pieces of the Smoker to create a perfect depth for smore grilling), and we put out sugar cones with mini-marshmallows for the bottoms. (Someone ended up bringing two large cakes, so there was a LOT of food to choose from.)

I wanted to take a picture of the food and layout as it was amazing and we were really pleased with how things turned out, but people started arriving, and eating as soon as we put things out on the table. (We had it in our backyard.) So all I have is a picture of some of the dessert tags that I created.
