Floored

After putting up with our old linoleum flooring for way too long...

(The tile consisted of 12" linoleum tiles that looked like it had dark grout between each tile. Unfortunately the dark grout was actually years of accumulated dirt that had lodged in the cracks. No matter what we used or how hard we cleaned it always looked dirty! Blech!) See photo on the right.

...we managed to talk the landlady into letting us put in laminate flooring in the kitchen. It looks SO much better than the old vinyl tile squares that were in there. It's the first time I've felt comfortable actually sitting on the floor. It wasn't as hard as I thought it would be, but since I just had to lay out the pattern and help scrape up the old tiles and hold the planks while Tim cut them, I had the easier job of the two. Tim was just happy to have an excuse to buy some power tools. :-)
We finished up the project in July, but with everything else that has been going on, I didn't have time to post a photo until now. It looks so much better than before! (As shown in the photo on the left.)

Unfortunately the 20 plus year old carpet looks REALLY old now. Not to mention the carpet pad has seen better days! It looks as if it is falling apart! Needless to say I see another project on the horizon! I wonder how bad the hardwood floors look underneath the carpet...

Man, what a difference a little wood makes, huh? Hmmm, I could go down from here, but...yikes! My mind is SOOO in the gutter.
