Carnage

Last weekend I went outside to check our container garden. We have some gorgeous bell peppers of all colors-including a delicious CHOCOLATE pepper! (Red and yellow are in the photo) We also have an eggplant and TONS of tomatoes growing, and we have been amazed at how well they've been doing.

We even had two pumpkins that were almost ripe enough to pick. They were small, but had volunteered in the garden, and we moved them into a pot to see how they would do. Surprisingly they did quite well.

Unfortunately I wasn't the only one monitoring our container garden! (As you can see from the carnage photo below.) Somewhere in the trees of our yard was a squirrel with a very slimy head and pumpkin "guts" hanging from its ear! They have eaten and/or buried almost all of our almonds and walnuts from the trees in our yard so I guess they are hungry.

Since then they have also tried eating our tomatoes, but don't seem to like them as much and we're left with 1/2 eaten produce almost daily. We've even caught them trying to eat the ant poison containers we've set out!

We're dog sitting this weekend and so far she's been very good about chasing the squirrels away. We're bumping it up a notch and getting her a squirrel toy so she can practice what to do if she manages to catch one.

Damn they look delicious! Except, of course, the demolished bits.

I love your blog!!!

Let me know if you ever get to the Cienega Valley - there is an awesome grape stomp this weekend at Pietra Santa winery. It is gorgeous there!
